Thank you for always using GeoSmile.

Recently, we held the "Walk 3000 Steps Campaign" which received tremendous positive feedback. This is very encouraging for all of our staff. Thank you to everyone who participated.

We are pleased to announce the second edition of the Walk 3000 Steps Campaign: "Steps for Hope"

Your steps, shared health.

In "Steps for Hope," for every 3,000 steps you take, a donation will be made to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.

Improve your own health while protecting children's lives and the future of heart disease patients.

All donations you submit will be responsibly managed and donated by GeoSmile.

🚶 Why "3,000 steps"?

As mentioned in our recent blog post, the average daily step count for GeoSmile users is 4,500 steps. In car-dependent America, there are few opportunities to walk unless you're conscious about it.

We chose "3,000 steps" as a milestone for three reasons:

  • To provide motivation for those who feel they lack exercise but can't seem to get started

  • To encourage those currently walking 2,000 steps to aim for 3,000, and those at 3,000 to target 4,000

  • It's an achievable number for beginners with minimal physical strain, making it easy to continue without overexertion

For these three reasons, we hope you'll aim to walk 3,000 steps first as an entry point to exercise that you can continue without strain.

❤️ Two Lives Your 3,000 Steps Will Save

Founded in 1962 by actor Danny Thomas with the vision that "no child should be denied the best medical care because of inability to pay," St. Jude is a research and treatment hospital for children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Their achievements are remarkable. Over the past 50 years, they've increased childhood cancer survival rates from 78% to 94%. What's particularly noteworthy is that patient families have absolutely zero out-of-pocket costs. Not only treatment, but also travel, meals, and accommodations are all free. Without insurance or for financial reasons, no one needs to give up on treatment.

And St. Jude's impact extends beyond the hospital walls. By sharing research findings freely with the world, they're saving children's lives not just in America, but globally.

American Heart Association: At the Forefront of Heart Health Research

Founded in 1924 with the mission of "a world free of heart disease and stroke," the American Heart Association (AHA) is the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment research.

In fact, heart disease is the leading cause of death for Americans, claiming approximately 690,000 lives annually. This exceeds the number of cancer deaths. In America, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds.

"Walking" is deeply connected to heart health. According to AHA research, 30 minutes of brisk walking per day reduces heart disease risk by 35%, and 150 minutes of walking per week decreases stroke risk by 27%. Additionally, people with regular walking habits have been shown to have a 40% lower risk of high blood pressure.

In other words, by walking, you're protecting your own heart while supporting heart disease research.

I love this idea! As another user has mentioned, if in the future make it possible to connect to smartwatches or to Apple health.

using apple health to count steps might make some users upset since Apple health’s step counter is a bit delayed and not all users have watches so it wouldn’t benefit them

Wonderful endeavor! If your app could link to smart watches this would be wonderful, no one carries their phone everywhere. I think you would be surprised how many steps we take.

Most people I know have their phone and don’t have smart watches at all. What I’d like is if the phone could be held and not carried in the pocket; then my pacing while talking steps would count!!
